How AI assistants shop on OumsAI stores
More and more people ask an AI assistant to find a product for them. Every OumsAI store is built so these assistants can read it, compare it and help the shopper buy, while the shopper stays in control and pays on the store’s own checkout.
What an assistant can do on an OumsAI store
- Learn about the store: what it sells, its languages and currency, where it delivers, and its delivery and return policies.
- Search the catalogue: by words, category, maker, price and availability, in the store’s languages.
- Read a product in full: options such as sizes and colours, which combinations are in stock, delivery, and reviews.
- Check today’s price: for the exact options and quantity the shopper wants, with delivery dates.
- Prepare a basket: and give the shopper a link to it.
What an assistant can’t do
- It can’t pay. Payment always happens on the store’s own checkout, by the shopper.
- It can’t see anyone’s personal data. No customer details, no orders, no accounts. It can’t even send us the shopper’s email: the store refuses it.
- It can’t change anything in the store. It reads the catalogue and prepares baskets, nothing else.
- It can’t sign in or place an order. There is no sign-in, no personal or payment data, and it never places an order: the shopper pays on the store’s own checkout.
The shopper stays in control
-
1
The assistant prepares a basket and gives the shopper a private link.
-
2
The shopper opens the link on the store itself and sees every piece with today’s price, and anything that has sold out or changed since.
-
3
The shopper chooses to continue, edit or leave it. The link works for 72 hours.
-
4
The shopper pays on the store’s own checkout, in the store’s look, like any other order.
For store owners
-
It’s on by default on every live store. You can switch it off at any time in Workspace → Sites, on your store’s page.
-
You see where an order came from. An order placed from an assistant’s basket is marked in your back office with the assistant’s name, as the assistant gives it.
-
Your store is protected. Each connection has limits on how often it can call and how many baskets it can create.
-
Assistants find you through the usual signals, published automatically: your sitemap, a product feed, a public catalogue for machines, an
llms.txtfile that describes your store, and arobots.txtthat welcomes search engines and assistants while keeping baskets and checkouts private.
We can’t control what any assistant shows or recommends. We make sure your store is easy for them to read, and that the sale happens on your terms.
For developers of AI assistants
Every live OumsAI store answers an MCP server at POST https://<store address>/mcp. There is no sign-in and no personal or payment data, and it never places an order: the buyer pays on the store’s own checkout. The store’s robots.txt and llms.txt point to it.

- Limits: 60 calls a minute per store and address; 10 new baskets a minute and 200 a day; a basket holds up to 30 different pieces, up to 20 per line, capped by stock (1 for a one-of-a-kind piece).

/mcpanswers 404 unless the store is open to shopping agents (the store owner’s switch). - Requests are capped at 64 KB, and a search returns 50 results at most.

Questions
- Can an AI assistant buy without the shopper?
- No. An assistant can prepare a basket, but the shopper always reviews it and pays on the store’s own checkout.
- Does the assistant get my customers’ data?
- No. There is no sign-in and no personal or payment data: the assistant sees what any visitor sees in the shop window, and the store refuses personal data.
- Can I turn it off?
- Yes. It’s on by default, and you can switch it off for your store at any time in Workspace → Sites.
